The Power of Love

Skill means nothing.  What if you have great skill, but are a mean and angry person?  Skill is like technology; in the wrong hands it is deadly.  We seek to increase our skill but have no change of heart.  We are still interested in being on top, in dominating and controlling others.  We seek skill so that we have the upper hand or advantage.  Instead, I am interested in a change of heart.  No longer us vs. them.  It is a change in how I know myself.  This is the transformation that can occur if I am willing to allow it.  It is a transformation of identity.  The caterpillar becomes a butterfly.  He doesn’t make it happen, he allows it.  We are undergoing a similar transformation.  We are being purified, cleansed, reborn.  We come to know ourselves as one with all that is.  There is no one to dominate and control because it is all me.  It is all one.  Does one hand try to dominate and control the other hand?  This is ridiculous, yet this is what we are doing.  Can I know you as part of what I am.  We share the same Source.  We come from the same place.  I am part of all that I see.  It is not about dominating and controlling.  Who is dominating and who is being dominated?

The practice is not about developing skill.  The practice is about knowing yourself.  Knowing who you are – knowing your natural state, knowing your natural function and reacquainting yourself with your natural abilities.  We want to change it and improve it, and yet we don’t even know what it is.  We are interested in exploring the nature of what is, exploring the feelings and sensations of what is, the experience of being, of standing up and not falling down.  How the world shows up for us is coupled to how we show up.  We have a change of heart  that begins with forgiveness of ourselves and others.  We have done the best that we can with what we have been given; so have others.  We are all doing the best we can.  We open our hearts to ourselves and each other.  We have compassion and we forgive.  This is the change of heart that is necessary.  Recognizing that in this world there is suffering.  We all suffer.  This suffering opens our hearts.  We have compassion for ourselves and each other.  This is the transformation that matters – the opening of our heart.  Without this nothing else matters.  Unless we open our hearts, any skill that we build is used in our pursuit of power.  When we open our hearts, we begin to recognize the power of Love.  This is not a skill.  This is who we are.  We are interested in Being.  The power of Love.
